Senate leadership assured that a bill granting President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. emergency powers to suspend the excise tax on oil will be approved next week.

In a report by DZRH's Raymond Dadpaas, the move follows the president's certification of the measure as urgent, signaling its high priority in light of rising oil prices amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III confirmed that the bill will be prioritized in the upcoming session, emphasizing its importance given the current global energy crisis.

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri echoed this sentiment, noting that the Senate will act swiftly following Malacañang’s certification.

Because the measure is certified as urgent, the usual three-day rule is waived, allowing the bill to proceed directly to the third reading. Both chambers of Congress are set to hold their next session before the Holy Week break.
