The Philippine Senate on Monday formally opened a photo exhibit celebrating the legacy of Filipina lawmakers, highlighting their role in shaping the country’s laws and democratic institutions.
Titled “Laws, Lives, and Legacies: Women of the Philippine Senate,” the exhibit was led by Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III alongside Deputy Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros. The event also marked the launch of a commemorative coffee table book bearing the same title.
The exhibit honors past and present women senators whose legislative work contributed to key policies on social welfare, gender equality, education, and public health—areas historically championed by female leaders in the Senate. It aims to inspire future generations of women to pursue public service and leadership roles.
In his message, Sotto emphasized that the initiative underscores inclusivity in governance and encourages young women to break barriers in politics.
Former senator Nikki Coseteng, along with families of past women lawmakers, attended the ceremony to celebrate their contributions.
Organized by the Senate’s Gender and Development Focal Point System as part of the National Women’s Month, the exhibit reflects ongoing efforts to recognize women’s impact in policymaking and nation-building.
