The impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday has been cancelled due to expected inclement weather conditions brought on by the Southwest Monsoon or “Habagat,” the Senate announced on Monday evening.

Senate President Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian permitted all Senate officials and employees to work remotely.

“In view of Memorandum Circular No. 128 issued earlier today by the Office of the President and the impact-based forecast of heavy rains/flood tomorrow due to the Southwest Monsoon, Senate President Sherwin T. Gatchalian is authorizing all Senate officials and employees to work from home tomorrow, Tuesday, 18 August 2026,” the advisory read.

“The impeachment trial and the plenary session of the Senate tomorrow are likewise cancelled,” it added.

On Monday, various areas across Metro Manila were submerged in floodwaters.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said more than 1,000 passengers were affected by cancelled and diverted flights. Moreover, bus trips from the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) were cancelled due to flooding.
