The Senate on Wednesday is holding necrological services for the late Juan Ponce Enrile, former Senate President and chief legal counsel to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Enrile died on November 13, 2025, at the age of 101 due to pneumonia, according to his daughter, Katrina Ponce Enrile.
The services, which began at 9:00 a.m., took place at the Senate session hall.
Lawmakers, family members, and guests gathered to pay tribute to Enrile, who served in key government positions, such as served four terms in the Senate as senator and as a Senate president.
A series of eulogies were delivered by prominent current and former legislators, including former Senator Richard Gordon, former President and now Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Senators Vicente Sotto III, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Erwin Tulfo, Robin Padilla, Jinggoy Estrada, and JV Ejercito.
A Senate resolution honoring the late Senate President was adopted by the Senate, which was introduced by Sotto, "expressing the chamber's deepest sympathies and profound condolences on the death of former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile."
“The Honorable Juan Ponce Enrile was a dedicated public servant, a distinguished legislator, a lawyer with incomparable intelligence, a leader with a compassionate heart and a loving friend,” Sotto said.
JPE’s daughter, Katrina also will deliver a eulogy for her late father.
