The Senate on Wednesday adopted Senate Resolution No. 472 honoring the life, legacy, and contributions of late Ateneo student-athlete Rene “Bobet” Baterbonia, recognizing his achievements in basketball and the inspiration he left to Filipino youth.

The resolution was approved during the Senate plenary session on August 5, with senators paying tribute to Baterbonia's dedication to the sport and his impact beyond the basketball court.

Present during the session were Baterbonia's parents, Rene Sr. and Rovelyn Baterbonia, along with other family members and relatives, who witnessed the Senate's recognition of the late athlete.

Senate Resolution No. 472 highlights Baterbonia's accomplishments as an Ateneo basketball player and acknowledges the values of excellence, discipline, and sportsmanship that he embodied.

The resolution also recognizes the inspiration his life continues to provide to young Filipinos pursuing their aspirations in sports and education.

Baterbonia was among the two Ateneo basketball players who drowned during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora, on June 8, 2026.

The Senate is also set to adopt a separate resolution honoring fellow Ateneo student-athlete Divine Adili, who likewise died in the same incident.
