The Senate on Wednesday has adopted resolution honoring the lives of the three students killed in the Tacloban City school shooting.
Senator Robinhood Padilla sponsored Senate Resolution No. 473, which recognizes the lives of Joyancee Separa, Ayessa Nicole Dazo, and Chris Lorenz Fabian, while paying tribute to their memory and the impact of the tragedy on their loved ones.
The Senate resolution conveyed its “profound sympathy and sincere condolences” to the families of the three victims, while emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of schools.
The senator said the measure serves as a tribute to the victims and a reminder that schools must remain safe spaces for students.
“Sa mga resolusyong sa Senado na ating tinatalakay ngayon ay pagpupugay sa kanyang katapangan at paaalala na dapat manatiling ligtas ang mga paaralan. Sa mga pamilyang naiwan, sana ay maging kaunting ginhawa ang pagkilalang ito sa Senado,” Padilla said.
“Sana ay magsilbing paalala ang trahedyang ito sa ating lahat. Ang bawat bata ay dapat makapasok sa paaralan ng walang takot at makauwi ng ligtas sa kanyang pamilya,” he added.
“Bilang lingkod bayan tungkulin natin tiyakin na hindi ito mananatiling pangarap lamang at ating ipangako sa kanilang mga magulang Ayessa, Joyancee, at Chris Lorenz Fabian ang hustisya,” he continued.
The resolution was co-sponsored by Senators Joel Villanueva, Cynthia Villar, and Risa Hontiveros.
Senate President Win Gatchalian also ordered the provision of financial assistance to the families of the three students.
The families of Dazo, Fabian, and Separa were present during the Senate’s approval of the resolutions honoring their deceased loved ones.
The June 22 shooting at a school in Tacloban City resulted in the deaths of Fabian, 15; Dazo, 14; and Separa, 15, and left 20 other students injured.
The attack was allegedly carried out by two students aged 14 and 15, who are currently under the custody of a Department of Social Welfare and Development-run rehabilitation facility.
The 15-year-old suspect has been charged with three counts of murder, three counts of frustrated murder, and multiple counts of serious physical injuries.
