Senator Pia Cayetano has been elected chairperson of the Committee on Accountability of Public Officers and Investigations, also known as the Blue Ribbon Committee, replacing Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson, in a leadership reshuffle announced on Wednesday, May 20.
Lacson will remain part of the committee as vice chair, ensuring continuity in ongoing inquiries into alleged irregularities involving public officials and government transactions.
In the same session, the Senate also elected new chairpersons for several key committees as part of an internal reorganization.
Among those appointed, Imee Marcos was named chair of the Committee on Foreign Relations, while Camille Villar will lead both the Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change and the Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises.
Robin Padilla was likewise elected chair of the Committee on Constitutional Amendments and Revision of Codes.
The changes were part of the routine realignment of committee leadership to distribute workloads and reflect new caucus arrangements for the remainder of the congressional term under the recent appointment of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano as Senate President.
