Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III confirmed that Senator Loren Legarda was offered the Senate presidency by a faction attempting to challenge his leadership.

According to Sotto, Legarda personally informed him that the offer came from the minority group seeking to form a new leadership bloc.

However, Legarda declined the offer, saying she was not interested in assuming the post. She has not publicly commented on the matter, noting only that many people talk to her daily and she will consider media questions she sees in reports.

The issue drew criticism from Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo "Ping" Lacson, who described the suggestion that Legarda was recruiting fellow senators for a new majority bloc as “not only malicious but sadistic.”

The episode highlights ongoing political maneuvering within the Senate, but Sotto emphasized that the leadership remains focused on legislative work amid speculation over possible shifts in the chamber’s power dynamics.
