Senator Loren Legarda called on the government to intensify its campaign against human trafficking, citing the increasing use of digital platforms, deepfake technology, and cross-border networks by traffickers to expand their operations.

Legarda highlighted that the majority of victims are women and children, emphasizing the need for concrete measures beyond declarations, especially during Women’s Month.

She urged improvements in victim identification systems, stricter digital enforcement, sustained prosecution, and reintegration services to support survivors.

According to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), 445 victims were assisted last year, with 163 cases related to sex trafficking and 104 involving labor trafficking.

The senator stressed that comprehensive government action is crucial to prevent further exploitation and ensure survivors can rebuild their lives.
