Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges chair Sen. JV Ejercito has defended himself following an ethics complaint filed by lawyer Marvin Aceron over the alleged lack of action on a separate complaint against former Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero.
Ejercito confirmed receiving the complaint and explained that the Ethics Committee is not yet fully constituted, preventing it from conducting meetings or hearings. He said the committee’s membership still needs to be formally completed before it can act on pending cases, adding that proceedings will resume once the Senate session reconvenes.
The complaint against Ejercito stems from an earlier ethics case filed in October 2025 against Escudero, which remains pending. Based on Senate rules and past practice, committee hearings are typically deferred during adjournment periods and are only conducted once committees are fully organized at the start of a session.
Ejercito assured that all pending ethics complaints will be heard in the order they were filed once the committee becomes fully operational.
