Senator Erwin Tulfo has clarified that neither he nor his brother, Raffy Tulfo, intends to run for a higher position in government, saying their family wants to avoid further political controversies and legal disputes.
In a recent statement, Erwin Tulfo said pursuing a higher post would likely invite renewed issues and complaints before the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
“Magkakaroon na naman ng issues. Ayaw na po ng family namin ng gulo,” he said. “Kaya si Sen. Raffy din, gusto niya po mag-re-elect na lang siya sa Senate, e ako din po napag-usapan na namin. I don’t have plans to run for higher office.”
Tulfo explained that national campaigns often come with intense scrutiny, criticism, and election-related cases, which their family no longer wishes to endure. He emphasized that both he and Raffy are focused on continuing their legislative work in the Senate rather than seeking more powerful posts.
The Tulfo brothers, both former broadcast journalists known for their public service and anti-corruption platforms, secured Senate seats with strong voter support. Political observers had speculated about the possibility of a higher national bid due to their high public trust ratings in previous surveys.
However, Erwin Tulfo underscored that their priority remains delivering on their mandates, pushing legislative reforms, and serving the public without adding further political tensions to their family.
