Sen. Bam Aquino met with volleyball icon Alyssa Valdez at the Senate to discuss programs aimed at strengthening support for Filipino athletes, particularly the youth and those competing at the national level.

Aquino welcomed Valdez, who plays for the Creamline Cool Smashers, during a meeting that centered on grassroots development through the Alyssa Valdez Youth Volleyball Camp (AVYVC) and broader initiatives for student-athletes.

The senator said the discussion covered ways to expand opportunities for athletes in both public and private schools, as well as to address challenges faced by members of national teams.

“Great to learn more about the Alyssa Valdez Youth Volleyball Camp and to discuss how we can further support our student-athletes and respond to the challenges faced by our national athletes,” Aquino said in a statement.

Valdez, one of the country’s most prominent volleyball figures, expressed optimism following the meeting, highlighting the importance of collaboration between sports leaders and policymakers.

“It’s inspiring to connect with leaders who share a vision for the future,” Valdez said. “Looking forward to what’s next.”

The AVYVC is among initiatives designed to nurture young volleyball talent, as stakeholders continue to push for stronger grassroots programs and institutional backing for Filipino athletes.
