Luxury vehicles seized from former Ako Bicol Party-list Congressman Zaldy Co will undergo forensic examination as part of an ongoing investigation, the Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) said. The confiscated cars are currently parked at the ICI compound in Taguig.
PNP-HPG Director PBGEN Hansel Marantan said authorities will determine whether the vehicles were used to transport contraband or linked to other illegal activities connected to the former lawmaker. The forensic process forms part of a broader probe into Co’s alleged activities.
A total of 12 vehicles are now under government custody. Eight of these were covered by search warrants issued by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) due to incomplete documentation and unpaid taxes, while four were found to have firearms violations flagged by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Two additional vehicles were left behind during the operation at one of Co’s properties in Bonifacio Global City after they could not be started. However, PBGEN Marantan disclosed that authorities are still searching for 10 more vehicles believed to be connected to the former congressman.
The PNP-HPG appealed to the drivers or individuals in possession of the remaining vehicles to surrender them voluntarily. Authorities warned that the vehicles cannot be legally used and that those found in possession of them may face arrest.
Marantan maintained that the seizure of the vehicles was lawful, noting that the keys were voluntarily turned over by personnel linked to Co. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to account for all vehicles involved.
