Security forces have been placed on heightened alert as preparations intensify for the first-ever Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections scheduled for September in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The Joint Task Force Central of the 6th Infantry Division remains under heightened operational status, according to Lt. Col. Ronald E. Suscano, Commanding Officer of the 6th Civil-Military Operations Battalion.

In an interview, Suscano said the military continues to implement preventive measures and maintains full operational readiness across its areas of responsibility. He added that security operations are being strengthened in identified election “hotspots,” including Shariff Aguak, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Nabawalag, several barangays in Midsayap (Cotabato Province), Datu Piang, and a barangay in Cotabato City.

Authorities have increased checkpoint operations and expanded intelligence monitoring networks to deter potential security threats and maintain order ahead of the polls.

Suscano also confirmed that security forces are continuously monitoring armed groups, including remnants of the Daulah Islamiyah and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), amid concerns over possible election-related violence.

He further noted that the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are closely watching communities where armed groups may be exploited by political actors as private armed supporters during the election period.

Security officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring peaceful, orderly, and credible elections in the BARMM, emphasizing sustained coordination among military, police, and local stakeholders in the lead-up to the historic vote.
