A second 60-day suspension may soon be imposed on Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga following a meeting of the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, chaired by 4Ps Party-list Rep. JC Abalos.
Barzaga did not attend the committee hearing on Tuesday, while members of the panel and several lawmakers from the National Unity Party (NUP) were present. The committee is expected to submit its recommendation to the plenary for deliberation and voting.
According to Manila Rep. Rolando Valeriano, a member of the NUP, the committee’s recommendation will be formally transmitted to the plenary on Thursday.
Valeriano said some members are pushing for Barzaga’s expulsion from the House, but the final decision will depend on the plenary vote based on the committee’s findings.
The second ethics complaint against Barzaga stems from allegations that members of the NUP allegedly received bribes from billionaire businessman Enrique Razon in exchange for supporting then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez during the previous midterm elections.
