In the recently concluded 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Team Philippines finished sixth overall, bringing home 50 gold, 73 silver, and 154 bronze medals.
Under the Athletes and Coaches Incentives Act (RA 10699), gold medalists receive ₱300,000, silver winners ₱150,000, and bronze medalists ₱60,000—a tangible reward for years of training and sacrifice.
Philippine athletes who excelled in the Asian tournament are set to receive their cash incentives from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on January 21 at Malacañang.
For team events, the incentives are adjusted depending on team size. Squads with fewer than five members, such as the gold-winning beach volleyball team of Sisi Rondina, Bernadeth Pons, Dij Rodriguez, and Sunny Villapando, will divide the full individual award equally.
Larger teams, including Gilas Pilipinas men and women, and national baseball and softball teams, will receive 25% of the individual incentive per member.
Olympian Kayla Sanchez emerged as the country’s most decorated athlete, winning eight medals—three gold and five silver—for a total cash prize of ₱1.65 million.
Meanwhile, tennis sensation Alex Eala earned three medals, including a gold in women’s singles and two bronzes in mixed doubles and the women’s team event.
Among the notable decorated athletes who will receive cash rewards are gold medalists pole vaulter EJ Obiena and boxer Eumir Marcial.
Coaches who have trained national athletes for at least six months prior to the competition are also eligible for incentives, receiving 50% of the athlete’s award, shared if there are multiple coaches.
