Several universities, colleges, and schools across the country have announced class suspensions on February 25, 2026, in observance of the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
The move allows students and staff to participate in commemorative activities honoring the peaceful uprising that restored democracy in the Philippines in 1986.
Affected institutions include major universities such as the University of the Philippines (selected campuses), De La Salle Philippines schools, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Santo Tomas, University of the East, Adamson University, Far Eastern University, and University of San Carlos.
Catholic and private schools also joining the observance include Immaculate Conception Academy, Saint Pedro Poveda College, Xavier School, La Salle Green Hills, St. Scholastica’s Academy, Saint Louis University and affiliated schools, General De Jesus College, Holy Child Catholic School, Imus Institute Inc., Malate Catholic School, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, St. Gabriel Academy, St. James Academy, and St. Mary’s Academy, among others.
Authorities and school administrators have reminded the public to plan ahead for travel, as traffic in key areas around EDSA and other historical sites is expected to increase. Government offices and select businesses are also expected to adjust operations in recognition of the national event.
Officials emphasized that the observance serves as a reminder of the Filipino people’s commitment to democracy, civic engagement, and national unity, encouraging citizens to reflect on the lessons of the historic revolution.
