

The Zamboanga City Schools Division Office confirmed a stabbing incident involving students in Cabaluay National High School on Wednesday, July 1.
The office assured it had promptly taken the necessary measures to ensure all students and school staff are safe, it has assisted affected students, and that it is coordinating with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
“The Division Office is closely monitoring the situation and is working with the school administration to ensure that proper interventions, including support services for the affected learners and the school community, are provided,” it said in an official statement.
The office said it remains committed to keeping public schools “safe, secure, and child-friendly learning environments” and continues to strengthen their child protection programs and precautionary protocols to preempt similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Likewise, the Department of Education (DepEd) issued a statement regarding the stabbing incident.
“Our immediate priority is the welfare and recovery of the two injured learners. The DepEd Central Office is closely coordinating with the Regional Office and the Schools Division Office to ensure that necessary assistance and interventions are promptly provided to the victims and their families,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said.
The department has directed all schools and field offices across the country to intensify the implementation of school safety and child protection policies, and boost coordination with parents, their respective local government units (LGUs), and law enforcement agencies.
According to reports, two Grade 11 students were allegedly stabbed by a batchmate in Cabaluay National High School on Wednesday. Moreover, the victims were reportedly forced by the suspect to smoke what is suspected to be marijuana.
