A school principal died after a fire broke out at his residence in the early hours of Saturday, January 24, 2026, in the town of Hinabangan, Samar, authorities confirmed.

The victim was identified by the Philippine National Police as “Dolfo,” 58, the principal of Motiong National High School in Motiong, Samar. The incident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. at his home in Barangay Malihao, Hinabangan.

Based on the initial investigation, the victim was inside his bedroom when the fire started and was unable to get out of the house.

Authorities noted reports suggesting the victim may have suffered an accidental electric shock inside the residence, which is being considered as a possible factor in the incident.

The Bureau of Fire Protection estimated the damage to property at around ₱250,000. A thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire and the circumstances that led to the school principal’s death.
