The Supreme Court did not act on the petition filed by the Cayetano bloc during its en banc session on Wednesday, according to the Court’s spokesperson.
Supreme Court spokesperson Atty. Camille Ting confirmed that no immediate resolution or directive was issued on the petition for certiorari and prohibition seeking to declare null and void the Senate quorum declaration and leadership change that took place on June 3.
The petition, filed by former Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano and nine others, asked the High Court to invalidate the proceedings that led to what they described as a “rigodon” of Senate leadership.
“The Supreme Court did not take any action on the petition during today’s en banc session,” Ting said, noting that the matter remains pending before the Court.
The petition challenges the legitimacy of the session that resulted in leadership changes within the Senate, including the election of Senator Sherwin Gatchalian as Senate President during a recent special session.
Ting earlier said that the Court must still deliberate on the petition, emphasizing that no immediate ruling is expected despite ongoing developments in the Senate.
The Supreme Court has yet to set a timeline for the resolution of the case, which continues to be under review.
