Pop star royalty Sarah Geronimo took a bold stand against corruption during the UAAP Season 88 opening ceremony on Friday, September 19, delivering a message amidst the ongoing controversy involving the flood control project anomalies in the Philippine government.

The singer spoke out during her performance of her hit song ‘Ikot-Ikot,’ exclaiming, “Parang panloloko sa bansa natin, pinaikot-ikot lang tayo. Tama na!” a statement that drew loud applause and cheers from the thousands in the audience.

After her epic performance, she openly addressed the situation in the country, acknowledging the widespread issues of “kaguluhuan, kasinungalingan, panloloko.”

She also emphasized that these problems are well-known and deeply felt by many, especially with the continuous typhoons and floods experienced across different parts of the country, as well as the ongoing investigation into irregularities in the government’s flood control projects.

"One day, kayo ang magbabago ng bulok na sistema ng bansang ito,” while she clarified that she didn't want to pressure them, she expressed her belief that the youth will one day be the ones to change the country’s broken system.

Despite this, Geronimo still shared her optimism about the future of the Philippines, saying that the country will continue to progress and develop.

She concluded her message by encouraging everyone to keep praying for the country’s continued growth and success, “Uunlad din ang ating mahal na bansang Pilipinas.”

The performance took place just days before the ‘Baha sa Luneta’ and ‘Trillion Peso March’ rallies set to happen in Metro Manila, following mounting allegations of corruption in the Department of Public Works and Highways' (DPWH) projects.

Meanwhile, investigations into flood control anomalies are still ongoing, with several public officials, including 17 congressmen and 2 senators, being linked to the controversy.
