The warrant of arrest issued by the Fourth Division of the Sandiganbayan against Senator Rodante Marcoleta has been served while he remains confined at the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital, according to Edniel Parrosa's report.
The warrant, which was also issued against former congressman Mike Defensor, stems from alleged violations of Presidential Decree No. 46, which prohibits government officials and employees from receiving gifts in connection with their official functions.
According to Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR) chief Police Colonel John Guiagui, the sheriff of the Sandiganbayan served the warrant to Marcoleta on Wednesday morning at the PNP General Hospital.
Police authorities are still awaiting the results of the senator's medical examinations. Marcoleta, 72, has been diagnosed with mild pneumonia and degenerative disc disease.
PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co said the findings of the senator's medical evaluation will be submitted to the Sandiganbayan.
The anti-graft court had earlier issued a commitment order directing authorities to transfer Marcoleta to the Quezon City Jail, subject to the court's orders and the assessment of his medical condition.
Former Congressman Mike Defensor is also facing the same charge in connection with the case.
