The Sandiganbayan has imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on Tarlac 3rd District Rep. Noel Rivera in connection with the corruption case involving an alleged anomalous flood control project.

According to a report by RH Val Gonzales, under the anti-graft court’s latest resolution, Rivera’s suspension will begin upon his receipt of the court’s decision.

Rivera, who has been dubbed a “cong-tractor,” earlier argued that he had already divested his interest in Tarlac 3-G Corporation and Development Corp. and was no longer a shareholder, officer, or director of the company.

He also maintained that he could no longer influence witnesses or evidence related to the case.

The Sandiganbayan said the suspension is mandatory under Section 13 of Republic Act 3019, or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, once a valid information has been filed.

The court also noted that Rivera’s motions were dismissed on Sept. 9 for lack of merit.

The Sandiganbayan ordered that a copy of the resolution be furnished to the House Speaker and directed the House to report to the court within 15 days.

Rivera’s preventive suspension will automatically end after 90 days.
