The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division has granted the prosecution’s request to issue a Writ of Preliminary Attachment on 16 real estate properties owned by former Ako Bicol party‑list Rep. Zaldy Co, as authorities seek to secure more than ₱215 million in potential civil liability tied to corruption cases.

In a January 30 motion, prosecutors asked the anti‑graft court to provisionally seize Co’s assets to ensure funds are available to satisfy any future judgment if he is convicted in ongoing complaints related to alleged irregularities in a ₱289.5 million flood control project in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

The writ covers condominiums and land in Makati City, Pasig City, Quezon City, and Lipa City, Batangas, either solely owned by Co or jointly held with his wife, according to the court resolution dated March 4, 2026.

The Sandiganbayan said it found sufficient cause to issue the preliminary attachment under Rule 127 of the Rules of Court, citing allegations that public funds were fraudulently misapplied or converted by Co in conspiracy with other public officials. Prosecutors warned that without immediate attachment, Co could easily dispose of or hide assets, risking the state’s ability to collect compensation.

Co, who was chairman of the House appropriations panel and faces multiple graft and malversation charges, has been declared a fugitive from justice for leaving the country amid the investigations and formal charges before the Sandiganbayan.

His co‑accused in the flood control cases include several Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials and private respondents linked to the project. Some have pleaded not guilty, and preliminary trial proceedings have been ongoing.
