The Sandiganbayan permitted Senator Jinggoy Estrada to undergo a knee x-ray procedure on Wednesday, according to a Monday report by RH 5 Val Gonzales.
“Accused Estrada is allowed to leave the New Quezon City Jail on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 11:00 o’clock in the morning to undergo knee x-ray at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center at 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon,” the anti-graft court said, adding that Estrada will be accompanied by security escorts.
Apart from his security escorts, only Estrada’s immediate family, legal counsel, and attending medical personnel may accompany him.
“Photography, video recording, and any social media postings regarding the accused’s procedure are strictly prohibited,” the court said.
Estrada must be returned immediately to the New Quezon City Jail, no later than 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Moreover, the senator is to pay for all hospital bills, medical fees, transportation, and incidental expenses incurred, the court said.
The Sandiganbayan expects a comprehensive compliance report no later than three days after Estrada returns to jail.
Earlier, Estrada submitted a motion in which he said he has been suffering from joint effusion even prior to his apprehension and detention on June 1.
“Accused Estrada has of late been experiencing a flare up of persistent pain in both knees, making it acutely difficult for him to walk,” the motion read, which explained that the senator was diagnosed with osteoarthritis previously.
