The Philippine National Police (PNP) is awaiting clearance from former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan’s attending physician before transferring him back to the PNP General Hospital, according to a Friday report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.

This comes after the Sandiganbayan granted Bonoan’s request for hospital arrest at Camp Crame over a plunder case in connection with the flood control scandal.

In a message to reporters, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla disclosed that Bonoan has undergone two procedures following his reported heart attack.

Bonoan is not in a good condition, Remulla said. If proven necessary, and if the anti-graft court grants it, the former public works secretary will be transferred to a hospital with advanced facilities such as The Medical City.

At present, Bonoan is currently staying at The Medical City in Pasig, while under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

According to PNP General Hospital Chief PCol. Dr. Cleto Manongas, Bonoan is slated for diagnostics tests to determine whether he is fit for trial.

“It’s too early po to tell na kung malabo o mabilis na po. Titingnan natin po if all the examination was already done at dependent doon sa assessment ng kanyang attending phsyician,” Manongas said.

Meanwhile, PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the agency is ready to implement the appropriate security and custodial measures at the PNP General Hospital.

Remulla clarified that the anti-graft court’s decision is a temporary one, and Bonoan’s camp is required to submit to them a formal medical diagnosis.
