The Sandiganbayan has granted the bail petition of former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. in connection with the alleged ₱92.8-million ghost flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.

The Sandiganbayan Third Division approved Revilla’s request for temporary liberty and set his cash bond at ₱1 million, according to the anti-graft court.

However, the court denied the bail petitions of Revilla’s co-accused, including Engr. Brice Hernandez, Engr. Jaypee Mendoza, Engr. Arjay Domasig, Emelita Juat, DPWH Bulacan First District Engineering Office finance section chief Juanito Mendoza, and cashier Christina Pineda.

The case stemmed from allegations by Ombudsman prosecutors that Revilla and his co-accused, who included former officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bulacan, facilitated the release of funds for a flood control project that was allegedly declared completed despite the absence of actual construction.

Prosecutors alleged that the accused falsified accomplishment reports, prepared fraudulent billing documents, and endorsed disbursement vouchers that resulted in the release of the project’s full cost.

A court inspection of the project site reportedly found that no physical structure had been built despite the reported completion of the flood control project.

Revilla had earlier posted ₱90,000 bail before the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division for a separate graft case filed against him.

The former senator remains detained at the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas while awaiting the completion of the bail process in the malversation case.
