The Sandiganbayan 3rd Division has deferred the arraignment of former Senator Bong Revilla Jr. and six other accused in the malversation case in connection with the P92.8 million “ghost” flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan, according to a report by RH Val Gonzales.
The arraignment and pre-trial, originally scheduled on Friday, January 23, were deferred due to multiple motions filed by Revilla and his co-accused.
Among the motions are requests to return the case to the reinvestigation stage, a motion to quash the warrant, and a petition to transfer Revilla from the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas to the Philippine Nationa Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame.
Revilla’s camp requested the withdrawal of the issued warrant of arrest and the dismissal of the case.
The lawyer of Revilla explained the motion requesting a reinvestigation of the case.
"Based on the allegations, I will not mention about the merits but it's based on denial of due process," Revilla's lawyer said.
The anti-graft court has given the defense until January 26 to submit any additional motions.
The arraignment and pre-trial have been rescheduled for February 9.
Meanwhile, the Sandiganbayan 3rd Division will conduct an inspection of the male dormitory at the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas, where Revilla and other accused are detained, as well as the female dormitory.
This ensures proper evaluation of the facilities before the court decides on the possible transfer to the PNP Custodial Center.
Reports from the jail indicate that one doctor and 30 nurses are stationed at the New Quezon City Jail to provide medical attention for the inmates.
Until the court rules on the transfer, Revilla will remain detained in Payatas.
