Several barangays in Sampaloc, Manila were left without water for more than 30 hours on Wednesday following a major pipe leak that disrupted supply in parts of the district.

According to a report by RH Tina Nolasco, the interruption was traced to a major secondary leak along Florentino Street that began affecting nearby communities, including areas along Algeciras Street, as early as 2 a.m. Tuesday, June 16.

Residents interviewed by DZRH said water service gradually returned past 11 a.m. Wednesday, allowing households to recover from the prolonged outage after scrambling for alternative sources.

Maynilad Water Services Inc. said repair works on the damaged pipeline had been ongoing until Wednesday, as crews worked to fully restore service in affected areas.

Meanwhile, personnel from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MDRRMD) had been deployed to provide continuous water supply to residents in impacted barangays through water distribution operations.
