Tropical Storm Salome has weakened into a tropical depression as it moves southwestward over the Luzon Strait, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its latest bulletin on Thursday morning, October 23, 2025.

As of 7:00 a.m., the center of Tropical Depression Salome was located 85 km southwest of Basco, Batanes , packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h, gusts of up to 75 km/h, and a central pressure of 1004 hPa. It is moving southwestward at 20 km/h.

Signal No. 1 in Batanes

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remains raised over Batanes, the northern and western portions of the Babuyan Islands (Calayan, Dalupiri, and Babuyan Islands), and the northwestern part of Ilocos Norte (Bangui, Pagudpud, Burgos, Pasuquin, Bacarra, and Laoag City).

Areas under Signal No. 1 may experience strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 km/h within the next 36 hours, posing a minimal to minor threat to life and property. Residents are advised to remain alert for possible power interruptions, minor structural damage, and falling debris, especially in coastal and elevated areas.

PAGASA warned that Salome will continue to bring moderate to heavy rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, which may trigger flooding and landslides in susceptible areas.

The weather bureau added that even provinces not under wind signals — particularly Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur — may still experience strong to gale-force gusts today due to the northeasterly windflow.

Salome is forecast to continue moving southwestward, possibly passing near or over Babuyan Islands this morning and Ilocos Norte by noon or afternoon.

The tropical depression is expected to further weaken into a remnant low by Friday, October 24, before dissipating completely.

PAGASA urged residents in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte to continue monitoring official weather updates and to heed instructions from local disaster management offices.
