The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Wednesday placed Luzon Grid under red alert for 13 hours, prompting more chances of power interruptions in some areas including Metro Manila.
In its latest advisory, NGCP said it may implement manual load dropping (MLD) in the following areas from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. to “maintain the integrity of the power system”:
- LUELCO (parts of La Union and Pangasinan)
- QUEZELCO I (parts of Quezon)
- CASURECO II (parts of Camarines Sur)
- MERALCO (parts of Metro Manila)
Meanwhile, an MLD may be implement from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the following:
- ISECO (parts of Ilocos Sur)
- QUEZELCO I (parts of Quezon)
- APEC (parts of Albay)
- MERALCO (parts of Metro Manila)
Rotational brownouts may also be implemented from 11:00 AM to 12 noon in the following:
- CAGELCO II (parts of Cagayan)
- PELCO I (parts of Pampanga)
- APEC (parts of Albay)
- MERALCO (parts of Metro Manila)
An MLD is defined as the process of cutting off power in areas served at a specific time due to power supply shortage.
“Schedule may be cancelled if system condition improves, such as if actual demand falls below projections,” the NGCP said.
The NGCP earlier said that the red alert started at 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM and will resume at 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert has also been placed from 8:00 AM until 9:00 AM. This will resume at 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and then at 11:00 PM to 12:00 midnight.
A yellow alert means low electricity supply, while a red alert means there are zero ancillary services or insufficient power supply in the grid.
Meralco also issued a warning to the public for rotational brownouts.
