Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez’s legal team filed a motion for bail before the Sandiganbayan on Monday, September 28, seeking his temporary release while he faces a ₱7.4-billion plunder case linked to alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
The Sandiganbayan Third Division earlier scheduled the initial bail hearing for October 12, with the proceedings set to continue through November 12. The court ordered Romualdez to personally appear and sign the pre-trial order during the first hearing.
The prosecution is expected to present 23 witnesses during the bail proceedings, while the defense is expected to present three to four witnesses.
Romualdez pleaded not guilty to the plunder charge during his September 16 arraignment. He remained detained at the New Quezon City Jail following his arrest in connection with the case.
The Sandiganbayan also scheduled the trial proper for November 23, with hearings set on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays thereafter. The case involves Romualdez and three other accused over alleged kickbacks connected to government projects.
