Former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez strongly rejected the allegation that the four “maleta boys,” who previously alleged that he accepted suitcases of cash they had delivered numerous times, recanted their testimonies at his bidding.

This was in response to Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla’s statement that the lawmaker was likely behind the sudden withdrawal of the self-confessed bagmen’s sworn statements, according to a Friday report by RH 12 Milky Rigonan.

Romualdez said Remulla’s statement reveals his bias against him, adding that the recantation only demonstrates that the accusations against him were simply fabricated.

In addition, the former speaker claimed Remulla’s statement makes it clear that the Ombudsman is not interested in justice and has already judged him guilty of the corruption he was implicated in.

Romualdez stressed that he refuses to be shaken by Remulla’s statement and is prepared to face the charges lodged against him, confident that the truth will surface.

Moreover, he said he will defend himself with evidence-backed truth rather than using Ombudsman Remulla’s bias against him.
