A rockslide occurred on an ongoing road project along the Brgy. Nipa–Maragano road in the second district of Northern Samar at around 8:00 a.m. Saturday, caused by heavy rains brought by Typhoon Ada, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 2nd District Engineering Office confirmed.

RH Jayne Galit reports that authorities have restricted the affected section to a single lane for all types of vehicles, urging motorists to exercise caution while passing through the area.

As of 10:00 a.m., DPWH personnel were conducting clearing operations at the site. A dump truck from the DPWH 2nd District office and 20 staff members from the maintenance section were deployed to ensure the road is cleared promptly.

Assistant District Engineer Tañala confirmed that the affected road is an ongoing project, adding that the contractor responsible for the project should also assist in clearing the debris as part of their contractual obligations.

Elsewhere in Northern Samar, at Chitongco–Mondragon, several trees fell at around 9:00 a.m., blocking the road. The DPWH 1st District Engineering Office quickly responded, conducting clearing operations to restore passage for motorists.

Government monitoring continues as Typhoon Ada affects various areas in Northern Samar. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) reported that residents in high-risk areas have been evacuated.

In Catarman, two families from Brgy. Narra were relocated to the Catarman terminal, according to the town’s information officer. Other residents, particularly those in remote areas, have also been moved to safer locations.

Brgy. Rawis, Laoang, reportedly had a fallen tree damaged a power post, according to a Facebook post by MDRRMO Laoang.

Rescue teams continue to patrol affected areas, while evacuation centers remain open for residents who wish to seek shelter from Typhoon Ada.
