The filing of a malicious prosecution complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte’s husband, Atty. Mans Carpio, is being considered following the dismissal of his complaint against several lawmakers and government officials, House prosecutor and Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon said Thursday.
“’Yung sa usapin po ng malicious prosecution, pag-usapan namin if kailangan ba naming kasuhan pa si Atty. Mans Carpio dito sa bagay nito. But I think at this point, that is on the table,” Ridon said.
Ridon made the statement after the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office dismissed, "without prejudice," Carpio’s complaint against several members of the House Committee on Justice and officials of the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) over jurisdictional issues.
Carpio’s complaint stemmed from the disclosure during the House impeachment proceedings of an AMLC report containing covered and suspicious transaction records allegedly linked to Carpio and Vice President Sara Duterte.
The AMLC reports detailing Carpio’s transactions from 2006 to 2025 were presented during the April 22 hearing of the House Committee on Justice.
Ridon questioned why lawmakers could face criminal complaints simply for failing to object to a motion during a committee hearing. He said lawmakers were merely performing their duties during the committee proceedings and described Carpio’s complaint as malicious and baseless.
“Tingin namin dapat, I guess, panagutin dito sa malicious prosecution itong si Atty. Carpio. Kasi malinaw naman, saan naman kayo nakakita ng kaso na isinasampa laban sa mga mambabatas just because they failed to object to a motion?” Ridon said.
“Medyo sobrang matinding kabobohan ‘yun. Kasi trabaho po ng mga mambabatas ‘yun… Tapos ‘yun ang magiging batayan bakit magkakaroon ng mga kaso. So, rightfully so, dapat po talagang binasura ‘yung kaso na ‘yan,” he added.
Ridon said the prosecutor’s decision to dismiss the complaint was proper, describing it as “malisyoso,” “walang batayan,” “basura,” and “panggulo.”
“Talagang dapat ho talaga i-junk ‘yun kasi wala man ho talagang batayan ‘yan. Malisyosong kaso po ito na dapat talagang binasura po ng piskalya,” he said.
“Walang batayan, basura, panggulo. Ito po nga kaso na ito. And napatunayan kami, doon sa original namin position, na walang kwenta po itong kaso po ni Atty. Carpio, binasura po ng piskalya. Ito pong kaso na ito, ang sabi nila, without prejudice,” he said.
He also challenged Carpio’s camp to refile the complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman, saying he was confident it would be junked again.
“Basically, pinagloloko kami, pinagloloko yung taong bayan dito po sa kasong ito,” Ridon said.
“We challenge them to file it again at the Office of the Ombudsman and I'm quite certain that will still be junked,” he added.
