Leyte 4th District Rep. Richard Gomez apologized to members of the media after exposing their private information on social media.

“To the members of the press who took offense with my social media post, I sincerely apologize. Sensitive information has been removed. I understand that the media endeavored to get my side of the story. I acknowledge your efforts. I’m sorry and I could have handled it better,” Gomez said during his privilege speech on Tuesday.

Earlier, Gomez posted screenshots of several of reporters’ text messages, which also contained their names and phone numbers, reported RH 12 Milky Rigonan.

The press had only meant to obtain a statement regarding allegations made by Matag-ob, Leyte Mayor Bernie Tacoy linking Gomez to faulty flood control projects.

Despite Gomez’s apology, many of the House reporters have already signed a manifesto condemning his actions.

On Friday, House Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno urged the press to raise the issue with the committee on ethics and privileges, a move supported by Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon.
