The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will subject alias "Totoy," the driver and personal assistant of actress Rhian Ramos, to a medico-legal examination as part of its probe into an assault complaint he filed.
According to NBI spokesperson Palmer Mallari, the examination aims to determine whether the injuries sustained by Totoy are consistent with his sworn statements. The bureau is also coordinating with the management of the condominium where the alleged incident occurred to obtain CCTV footage and is liaising with telecommunication providers for additional potential evidence.
Mallari added that subpoenas for Ramos, as well as beauty queens Michelle Dee and Samantha Panlilio—also named in the complaint—will only be issued once sufficient evidence has been gathered. “The moment a subpoena is sent to a person being complained of, a respondent of a particular case, is that we would like the confrontation to be done at a time... for them to be given the chance to explain their side. Kasi karapatan din naman nilang magbigay ng paliwanag,” he said.
Totoy returned to the NBI Homicide Division on Monday morning to provide additional statements. He had previously filed a complaint with Arsenio Evangelista, head of the Violence Against Crime and Corruption division, accusing Ramos, Dee, and Panlilio of physical assault and illegal detention.
Ramos and Dee’s camps have denied the allegations, claiming the complaint may be a retaliatory act by the driver related to an alleged theft of sensitive photographs.
The NBI stressed that the issuance of subpoenas will be carefully timed to ensure that all evidence is available and respondents are allowed to explain their side before any confrontation takes place.
