John Cena is returning to the spotlight, but this time he’ll be trading his wrestling trunks for a tuxedo.

WWE announced Monday that the 17-time world champion will serve as the host of WrestleMania 42, scheduled for April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium. The announcement marks Cena’s first appearance with the sports entertainment giant since he retired from in-ring competition last December.

Cena, widely considered the "Greatest of All Time" by the organization, broke the news via social media from the set of his latest film project.

“I'm also on the road, which is ironic, because there's a road to WrestleMania going on, and Hollywood is really close to Vegas,” Cena said in his video announcement.

“Rumor around this town is WrestleMania needs a host. Well, I'm already on that road, so I will see you at WrestleMania.”

The 48-year-old superstar last appeared in a WWE ring at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December, where he suffered a definitive loss to Gunther.

That match was billed as his final performance, ending a career that spanned more than two decades and yielded a record-tying number of world titles.

While Cena will not be competing in a sanctioned match, his role as host ensures a high-profile presence for the two-night event in Las Vegas. WWE has frequently used legendary figures to host its flagship show, using their mainstream appeal to bridge the gap between wrestling fans and casual viewers.

The "Grandest Stage of Them All" will be the first WrestleMania held in Las Vegas since WrestleMania IX in 1993, which took place at Caesars Palace.
