Residents of Barangay Sacred Heart in Quezon City are set to file a petition on Monday, April 6 against a homeowner allegedly storing a large quantity of fuel inside a residential property.
According to a report by RH Val Gonzales on DZRH's Dos Por Dos, the complaint comes from residents living along Scout Castor Street, near a house allegedly storing around 10,000 liters of diesel.
An oil tanker transferring fuel to another tanker inside the residential property was seen parked in front of the house Saturday evening.
Residents said that the property spans approximately 300 square meters was reportedly purchased last year by a Chinese businessman.
The petition stems from growing concerns about public safety in the neighborhood. Community members expressed alarm over the potential dangers posed by the fuel storage, citing risks such as fire or explosion.
According to the residents, the storage of such a significant volume of fuel in a residential area is not only hazardous but also allegedly unauthorized. They claim that permits are not issued by the government for private individuals to store fuel in such quantities within residential zones.
“Gusto ko lang malaman kung ano ang magiging action ng government sa sitwasyon namin ngayon na may fire hazard na may tangke. Kung itututloy ba nila ito o ipasasara workshop na ito, tatanggalin lang ang tangke, tatanggalin ang krudo para naman sa safety namin,” one resident voiced concern over the clear government action.
As of 8:10 a.m., more than 20 residents have signed the petition. They aim to submit it to the office of QC mayor Joy Belmonte either today or by Tuesday, April 6, once enough signatures have been gathered.
The petition calls for the immediate removal of the stored fuel and urges local authorities to take swift action to ensure the safety of the community.
