House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos assured the public that the House of Representatives will not obstruct and will freely deliberate on any impeachment complaints filed against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. or any other impeachable official.
Marcos emphasized that it is the constitutional duty of the House to act on impeachment complaints once they are formally filed. His statement comes after an impeachment complaint was reportedly lodged against his father, the sitting president.
According to the House leader, his role as majority leader is strictly procedural. Once an impeachment complaint is included in the House’s calendar of business and read in plenary session, it must be referred to the House Committee on Justice for proper evaluation.
Marcos stressed that all impeachment complaints must be heard regardless of who the respondent is, underscoring the independence of the legislative process and adherence to the rule of law.
The House Committee on Justice is tasked with determining the sufficiency in form and substance of impeachment complaints before any further action is taken by Congress.
