As house majority leader, it is Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Alexander “Sandro” Marcos’ duty to process the impeachment complaint against his father, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., said House Committee on Justice Vice Chair Jonathan Keith Flores on Monday.

The younger Marcos is head of the House Committee on Rules, which oversees the flow of legislative processes in the plenary and in other committees, reported RH 12 Milky Rigonan.

Flores explained that the system warrants the impeachment complaint’s immediate referral by Rep. Marcos’ committee to the committe on justice the moment the plenary endorses it.

Rep. Marcos, he said, can do nothing once the impeachment complaint becomes part of the order of business.

“Well in this particular case, I think there is no choice for him, because it really says that it has to be referred to the committee on justice. So even if he is the majority leader, and even if the impeachable officer that is complained of is his father, wala siyang magawa because ang procedure talaga is after it is included in the order of business, then in three days, it has to be referred to the committee on justice,” Flores explained.

Once House Speaker Faustino Dy III receives a copy of the complaint from the office of the House Secretary General, he has 10 days to include it in the calendar of business so it may be tackled by the plenary, and then formally endorse it to the committee on justice.

The impeachment complaint against the President was filed on Monday, January 19, by lawyer Andre de Jesus and endorsed by Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jett Nisay.
