Following the Supreme Court’s (SC) decision to deny the House of Representatives’ motion for reconsideration, a lawmaker said he will consult with his colleagues to revise the Rules on Impeachment.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 29, Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua said that as a member of the House Prosecution Team and the Committee on Justice, he will confer with his colleagues on how to best revise the Rules on Impeachment.
“We will receive inputs from the complainants, some of whom are now Members of the House. It is also possible that the Prosecution Team composition will have some changes,” he wrote.
While the lawmaker emphasized that he disagrees with the SC decision, he said that they will abide by it out of respect for the system.
“This statement reflects my personal view as a Member of the House, and not the collective position of the entire House of Representatives or the panel of prosecutors,” he said in closing.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III said that he respects the SC decision, highlighting, “Mahalaga po ang pag-iingat sa proseso ng impeachment—isang pananagutang kaakibat ng mandato na ipinagkatiwala sa atin ng sambayanang Pilipino.”
On Thursday, January 29, the SC En Banc upheld its ruling that the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte are unconstitutional, denying the House of Representatives’ motion for reconsideration.
