Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said statements by national leaders threatening violence or death could contribute to a culture of violence, particularly among young people.

Remulla made the remarks after appearing to allude to an unnamed national leader who allegedly said he had hired a hitman and threatened to have someone killed.

The interior chief said such rhetoric could influence children, who he noted look up to the country’s leaders.

“Hindi pwede yung mga leaders natin nagsasalita na ipapapatay kita, kasi nagiging normal yan eh. Akalain ng mga bata normal na rin yan,” Remulla said.
