Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla said his office plans to file complaints against individuals allegedly spreading fake news intended to undermine public trust in the Office of the Ombudsman.
During a press conference, Remulla cited a blog discussing the case involving former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, which he claimed was attempting to influence public opinion through misinformation.
“There’s a blog which tries to give a viewpoint about the Martin Romualdez case… They’re trying to influence public opinion about what’s happening in the court in the form of fake news,” Remulla said.
He also denied social media claims that he is suffering from leukemia, clarifying that he has been cancer-free for nearly three years.
“It’s been almost three years since I’ve been cancer-free,” he said, adding that such posts were intended to undermine confidence in his office.
Remulla said the Ombudsman plans to file complaints with Facebook and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to seek the removal of the allegedly misleading posts.
