Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed that armed individuals attempted to enter the Senate on Wednesday evening but were repelled by security forces, with authorities assuring that all senators and personnel are safe.

During a press briefing outside the Senate, Remulla said the incident occurred at around 7:46 p.m., when unidentified armed men allegedly tried to access the building through the second floor but were stopped by the Office of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA).

“Armed men tried to enter through the second floor but were stopped by the OSAA. They had firearms with them, but the OSAA fired a warning shot,” Remulla said.

He added that the suspects retreated and reportedly fired indiscriminately into the air as they withdrew from the area. Authorities have yet to determine the exact number of individuals involved.

Remulla stressed that there were no reported casualties or injuries in the incident.

“There are no casualties. None. No one was hit, no one was wounded, no one was killed,” he said.

He further stated that government forces have been instructed to secure the premises and gather evidence, including CCTV footage from the Senate and nearby facilities such as GSIS, to identify those responsible.

According to Remulla, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered immediate action to ensure the safety of all lawmakers, emphasizing that political divisions are set aside during the crisis.

“Our mission here… the president sent me here to secure the senators. There is no politics at this time. In times of turmoil, politics goes out the window,” he said.

He also clarified that security operations were not targeting any specific individual, including Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, amid circulating speculation.

“We are not here to arrest Senator Dela Rosa. In fact, we are here to protect him,” Remulla said.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident as security forces maintain heightened alert status in the area.
