The remains of a Filipino migrant worker killed in a drone-related incident in Saudi Arabia arrived in the Philippines on Friday, Nov. 6, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said Saturday.
The overseas Filipino worker (OFW) died on Oct. 21 while driving after a drone targeting a facility at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oilfield was intercepted.
The remains arrived aboard a Saudia Cargo flight and were received by DMW Assistant Secretary Maria Regina Galias and officials from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), along with the worker’s grieving family.
Galias extended the government’s condolences, saying the DMW would stand with the family during their loss.
The worker’s employer arranged the repatriation in coordination with the Migrant Workers Office in Al Khobar, the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh and Saudi authorities.
The employer also processed the worker’s unpaid salary, end-of-service benefits and other labor entitlements.
The DMW and OWWA said they would continue assisting the family until the worker’s burial.
Under the DMW’s AKSYON Fund, the family will receive financial assistance, while OWWA will provide burial assistance and educational support for the worker’s child.
The family will also receive guidance through government reintegration programs to help manage the assistance and address their long-term needs, the DMW said.
