Asia’s songbird, Regine Velasquez, slammed government officials and agencies as Super Typhoon “Uwan” battered several areas in the country.
In an Instagram post over the weekend, the singer lamented and questioned the aftermath of environmental destruction.
“Hindi na natin maibabalik ito sa dating ganda. Sino pa ang magsasalba sa atin pag may [bagyo],” Regine wrote in the caption.
“Sinira niyo na lahat para ano sa kayamanang hindi niyo madadala sa hukay!!!!!! Sa lahat ng sangay ng gobyernong walang malasakit ang [kakapal] ng mukha niyo, kayo ang may kasalanan sa lahat ng nangyayari sa Pilipino!!!!!!!!!” she added.
In a separate post, Regine shared a TikTok video edit featuring the voice of former Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Gina Lopez, stating, “If you kill the environment, you kill everything.”
The public’s call for accountability and the protection of nature came as Super Typhoon Uwan weakened, passing through the Sierra Madre mountain ranges.
However, this is not the first time that the public has called out officials over the environmental impacts of infrastructure and development projects. Recently, celebrity engineer Slater Young’s “The Rise at Monterrazas” received intense backlash, as widespread flooding was reported in Cebu, particularly in Guadalupe.
On Monday, November 10, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported that there were two fatalities and two injuries recorded. However, the said data is still up for validation by local disaster offices.
