Red and yellow alerts were raised in the Visayas and Mindanao grids on Friday, September 11.

As of 1:30 PM, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that the following alerts would be raised in the Visayas grid:

Red Alert

• 2:00PM- 10:00PM

Yellow Alert

• 1:00PM- 2:00PM
• 10:00PM- 11:00PM

The available capacity is at 2,012MW, with a peak demand of 2,389MW.

According to the NGCP, nine plants are on forced outage on September, swhile four plants have been since August, one plant since July, two plants since June, seven plants since May, three plants since 2025, two plants since 2024, two plants since 2023, and one plant since 2021.

Meanwhile, 16 plants are running on derated capacities, totalling 1,026.2MW unavailable to the grid.

Additionally, the unavailability of the Visayas’ large coal plants TVI 1, TVI 2, and PDEC 3 contributed to the extension of the red and yellow alert. Another factor that contributed to this is the unavailability of power imports from the Mindanao Grid.

Red and yellow alerts for the Mindanao Grid were raised at the following times:

Red Alert

• 1:00PM- 8:00PM

Yellow Alert

• 12:00PM- 1:00PM
• 8:00PM- 10:00PM

The available capacity is at 2,572MW, with a peak demand of 2,622MW.

“15 plants are on forced outage on September 2026, 7 plants since August, 4 plants since July, 1 plant since June, 2 plants since January, 1 plant since 2025, and 1 plant since 2024, while 7 plants are running on derated capacities, for a total of 882.4MW unavailable to the grid,” the NGCP said.

Moreover, factors that contributed to the red and yellow alert declaration include:

• The unavailability of Mindanao’s large coal plants GNPK 2 & 3
• Increase in forecasted demand by 65MW on average
• Decrease in the available generating capacity of IDP1 and IDP2
• Decrease in the available generating capacity of WMPC
• Unavailability of TM2 U1 at 10:18 AM on Friday
