Executive Secretary Ralph Recto is expected to study possible legal action over an alleged attempt to implicate him in a sex scandal, following the completion of the National Bureau of Investigation’s (NBI) probe into the reported “honeytrap operation.”
NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag told DZRH News that Recto’s camp is expected to coordinate with the bureau to determine possible liabilities and legal remedies once the investigation is concluded.
“After the investigation. When we close the investigation because they want to look into the responsibility or kung ano yung pwedeng maging legal actions na,” Matibag said.
Matibag said Recto would send lawyers to the NBI to discuss the findings and determine the appropriate legal steps that may be taken against those allegedly involved in the operation.
The NBI is also set to question four lawyers from the Rondain & Mendiola law firm after they were issued subpoenas last Friday. The lawyers allegedly prepared the script and affidavits used by four contracted individuals in the reported character assassination attempt against the executive secretary.
The law firm was founded by Atty. Ruy Rondain, who also serves as legal counsel to resigned Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co.
The NBI-National Capital Region had earlier subpoenaed Rep. Leandro Leviste, who was allegedly identified as the financier of the plan, and former Rep. Jing Paras, who was reportedly identified as its facilitator.
The bureau has yet to complete its investigation and determine the extent of the involvement and possible liabilities of the individuals being investigated.
Recto’s camp is expected to assess the NBI’s findings before deciding whether to pursue legal action against those allegedly behind the reported operation.
