Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo “Dax” Cua died Tuesday evening, September 15, at the age of 48, with the House of Representatives confirming his passing on Wednesday. His family and the provincial government have yet to disclose the circumstances of his death.

The House, led by Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, mourned Cua and honored his 25 years of public service, including his terms as vice governor, governor, and representative of Quirino’s lone district from the 15th to 17th Congresses.

“We remember Governor Dax for his years of dedicated public service and his commitment to the people of Quirino and to strengthening local governance in the Philippines and across the Asia-Pacific region,” the House said.

Cua was also serving as president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines and United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific, as well as national chairman of the League of Provinces of the Philippines, at the time of his death.

The House extended its condolences to Cua’s family, including his wife, Quirino Lone District Representative Midy Cua, and the people of Quirino. Under the Local Government Code, Vice Governor Julius Caesar “Jojo” Vaquilar is set to assume the governorship.
